Cal Fire is in Need of Pilots as Wildfire Season Rages On

SACRAMENTO -- Cal Fire says a shortage of air tanker pilots is causing them to rework how they attack wildland fires from the air, using contract air tankers to fill in the gaps.

Currently, pilots are on a six day on, one day off schedule, which worked well when pilots used to have long winter breaks to recharge. But now that there are no breaks in the fire season physical stress and burnout are a concern.
