Owner Found Shot Inside Burning Skating Rink in Southern California

GRAND TERRACE (AP) — Authorities say deputies responding to a reported robbery at a Southern California roller-skating rink found the building on fire and the unconscious owner inside with multiple gunshot wounds.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says 43-year-old Ryan Harsany of Brawley died of his wounds at a hospital early Saturday.

Officials say crews extinguished two small fires at Cal Skate Grand Terrace while firefighters and deputies pulled Harsany out of the building.

Authorities did not immediately release information about suspects or a possible motive for the shooting.

The victim’s twin, Brian Harsany, a Brawley police officer, tells the San Bernardino Sun that the brothers were regulars at the skating rink while growing up.

The newspaper says four years ago a security guard was fatally shot while working a New Year’s party at the rink.
