Driver Leaves Scene of South Sacramento Crash That Killed Passenger

SOUTH SACRAMENTO — The CHP says a passenger died in a crash Saturday in South Sacramento and the driver left the scene.

Just before 10 p.m., an Acura SUV crashed into a power pole on the corner of Fruitridge Road and Mendocino Boulevard, according to the CHP.

The occupant in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators the driver ran away before emergency personnel arrived at the scene around 10:05 p.m.

South Sacramento CHP investigators have not said what led to the crash but suspect the driver was impaired.

The identities of the driver and the passenger are unknown.
