RANCHO CORDOVA -- Three adults were displaced and a family pet was killed early Wednesday morning after a fire in Rancho Cordova.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Wednesday at Centennial Estates on Dutchess Way.

"It just devastated our little area here because everyone is ... they're all upset. They're all sad," neighbor Khristy Duke said.

No one was injured in the fire.

"The fire started on the bed and then in talking to people who were home at the time, it sounds like the person who was smoking was actually in bed smoking," said Chris Vestal with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Duke says she is thankful her neighbors made it out alive and that the situation could have been much worse.

"They go up within minutes," she said. "You don’t have a chance to get anything out. You got to get your family and get out to save your life."
