OAKLEY -- A fire burning in Oakley prompted evacuations early Wednesday afternoon.

By Wednesday afternoon, 58 acres had been burned by the Sellers Fire, according to East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. It was 100% contained later in the evening.

Fire officials say the blaze has destroyed two outbuildings and is threatening several homes.

The flames have already damaged several vehicles.

Evacuations ordered for Sellers Avenue, Crismore Drive and Delta Road were lifted just before 4 p.m.

Sellers Avenue between Delta Road and Jan Lane is still closed.

FOX40 spoke to a couple who had to evacuate.

“I think that the local authorities do a really good job of keeping everything under control and under the circumstances, I think I feel pretty safe,” said Seamus Hodgin. “Just hoping that my cat and my few chickens fare well.”

“Still a little nervous but we know that we can count on our authorities here to take care of us,” said Heather Turman.

This is a developing story.
