STEVINSON, Calif. (KTXL) — Merced County deputies were involved in a shooting that left a suspect injured Friday.
Officials say the shooting occurred after a suspect led them on a 10-mile pursuit.
It began when the Merced County Sheriff’s STAR Team was investigating gang activity where a gang member might be in illegal possession of multiple guns.
When deputies attempted to stop the suspect, the suspect fled from the township of Hilmar going south on Highway 165.
The ensuing car pursuit took deputies on a 120 mph chase before the suspect lost control of his car near a US Fish and Wildlife parking lot.
The shooting occurred when the suspect stepped out of his car in the South Freitas parking lot.
No police were injured, and the suspect was shot once, according to officials.
The suspect is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
