SOUTH SACRAMENTO, Calif (KTXL) -- A hotel parking lot turned into a crime scene Sunday night in South Sacramento.

Police believe 38-year-old Nader Alomari beat a man to death with an object around 8 p.m. outside the WoodSpring Suites on La Mancha Way and Mack Road.

“We heard the sirens, the helicopter flying in, then we came around and there was a parking lot full of police,” said WoodSpring guest Charlene Anthony.

Officers found the victim, who was in his 60s, badly injured in the parking lot, according to police. They tried to save the victim’s life but he died at the scene.

“Officers immediately began an investigation into the incident and were able to gain some preliminary information that led them to believe the suspect was at the hotel,” said Sacramento Police Officer Karl Chan.

They found the suspect inside a hotel room, detaining him as they worked to figure out what happened.

“Locating witnesses, maybe checking up on evidence and possible surveillance footage, and really putting all those pieces together,” Chan explained.

Police say they ultimately arrested Alomari on homicide charges. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

On Monday, Sacramento police were still investigating why the deadly assault happened and do not know whether the suspect knew the victim.

People who work nearby have been calling for more to be done to prevent violence moving forward.

“Just be around. Maybe if a cop car stays in the corner and has a coffee there or something people will be aware of them,” said Swami Ji.

FOX40 reached out to the hotel Monday for a comment but have yet to hear back.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once his next of kin has been notified.
