BYRON -

With the California Capital Airshow starting this weekend at Mather Airport, there is a local man and a large group of volunteers, who are determined to make sure teens will be flying in the show someday.

Randy Howell is the founder of the Patriot Jet Team Foundation located at a hangar in Byron.

The pilot keeps six jets in the hangar, and has turned his foundation into a school, of sorts, where teens between 12 and 18 get hands-on experience in cockpit operations and air traffic control lessons.

Howell began the foundation out of his own passion for flying.
