An officer shot and killed a suspect in rural Stockton after the suspect showed the officer he was armed with a weapon.

Reports of a reckless driver led to an officer involved shooting, according to James Smith of California Highway Patrol in Stockton.

Just after 3 p.m. officers received reports of a reckless driver in a pickup truck. The driver eventually left the roadway and hit a tree in an orchard south of Foppiano Lane.

A CHP officer responded to the accident where he confronted the man, and the man in the truck showed a weapon. CHP did not confirm what type of weapon the man displayed to the officer.

The officer then fired his gun on the man and immediately gave him medical attention. The CHP officer waited for medics to arrive, but the pickup driver died at the scene.

No information has been released on the identity of the pickup driver.
