FAIR OAKS —

An arson task force confiscated about 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks from a home on Copley Court in Fair Oaks on Wednesday afternoon.

A 59-year-old was arrested and charged with felony possession of illegal/dangerous fireworks for sale in excess of 1,000 pounds.

Official said they received a tip from a concerned citizen, which led to a search warrant and arrest. The previously convicted felon is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Jail.

This is one of the largest seizures of illegal fireworks ever in Sacramento County. The fireworks will be taken to the state fire marshal Thursday to be destroyed.

Illegal fireworks explode, leave the ground, send sparks higher than 12 feet and pose a significant fire danger, as well as a high risk for devastating injuries.
