The skeletal remains of Karen Sterzl, a Stockton woman missing since 1990, were found in the yard of a Manteca home, Stockton Police confirmed Wednesday.

The remains were identified through dental records. The exact cause of her death has yet to be revealed, pending an autopsy.

The Manteca Bulletin reported May 29 that investigators had wrapped up a search at a vacant home along Park Avenue.

Crews had dug between the garage of the home and the neighbor’s fence.

Sterzl was last seen in Stockton on Dec. 22, 1990. She had been living on a boat with her long-term boyfriend. Police say Sterzl’s boyfriend had said she left to visit her mother in Montana, but her mom was not expecting her and she never showed up.
