Boy, 2, Rescued from Vallejo Drainage Pond

A 2-year-old boy who fell into a drainage pond is fighting for his life, Vallejo Police say.

According to a release from the Vallejo Police Department, the boy was out fishing with his a guardian near Fairgrounds Drive Saturday.

While she was trying to tie a rope around the boy to prevent him from falling in, the guardian turned her back for a second, only to find that the boy had fallen in. She tried to rescue him, but couldn’t. A person walking by also tried jumping in the water to find the boy but couldn’t.

A Vallejo firefighter was finally able to find the boy in the murky water and bring him out.

The boy was taken to Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, but was eventually transferred to Kaiser in Oakland. Police note that the boy is in critical condition.

Police are still investigating the case.
