Deputies have made an arrest in the 11-year-old murder case of a Biggs woman.

The man now suspected in the murder of 41-year-old Shirley Ann Pratt was already in jail, serving a 90 sentence for violating his parole.

Pratt was found lying in near the entrance to the Oroville Wildlife Area back on October 12, 2001. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have been looking into one man’s connection to Pratt’s murder for a few years. They credit advances in DNA technology for finally linking 47-year-old Marvin Ray Markle Jr. to the murder.

While in jail Wednesday, Markle was charged for Pratt’s murder. He will remain at Butte County Jail without bail.
