Explosion Closes Highway 99 in Fresno

A large gas explosion was reported Friday near Highway 99 in Fresno. Officials say 15 people were injured, and 11 were taken to hospitals.

According to a spokesperson for the Community Regional Medical Center, four patients are being treated at the hospital’s burn and trauma center. Three are in critical condition and one is in serious condition.

Highway Patrol officers closed the freeway at Herndon Avenue.

According to KFSN-TV, construction crews hit a gas line and caused the explosion.
