LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a horse without a rider was struck and killed by a car on a freeway off-ramp in northern Los Angeles.

City News Service reports the horse was walking up the ramp toward Interstate 210 in the Sylmar neighborhood Saturday when it was hit.

The California Highway Patrol says the horse died at the scene. It wore a saddle but had no rider.

The off-ramp was briefly closed after the crash.
