Interview: Proposed budget cuts could harm early education protections for low-income families

Governor Gavin Newsom’s May revise of the state budget is still sending shockwaves through hundreds of programs that may change drastically if the state really can’t rebound from a $54 billion deficit caused by COVID-19.

That all has leaders of the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) worried that promised protections for low-income kids to attend pre-school just won’t come to pass.
