SUTTER COUNTY — A Sutter County Sheriffs K9 is in the hospital recovering from injuries it suffered last weekend from a suspect who shot him.
According to the Appeal Democrat, Iko, the 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, was shot by Dale Crittenden after he led officers on a chase while towing a stolen vehicle. Crittenden was arrested and charged with willful harm to a K9, as well as a slew of other charges.
The newspaper reported that Iko narrowly avoided being shot in the head, but he was still seriously injured and “may have been blinded in one eye.”
Now, the Sutter County Sheriffs Department says Iko’s vet bills are pilling up, and are seeking donations to help. On the GoFundMe page set up for Iko, sheriffs say,
“In the event, that Iko looses his eyesight and retired out, your donation will see to it that Iko will live the rest of his life worry free, by paying his health care in the future. Any excess money raised will only be used to care for K9’s of Sutter County.”
