Security at Arden Fair Mall say a 4-year-old child was left inside a car with a dog while its guardian went to work Wednesday.

A passerby saw the child in the car, who had been inside for more than a half hour.

Police say the child’s biological mother had to work and had no other option but to leave the 4-year-old with her partner, who works at the mall as a custodian. Her shift was from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and planned to check on the child periodically throughout the evening.

Child Protective Services was notified, but no charges will be filed and the child will not be taken away since the mother has no history of negligence.
