SACRAMENTO –

The Wizard World Comic Con will be the first for the events company in Sacramento, and local businesses hop to profit as well as promoters.

“I see a thousand rooms and $2 million in business,” said Mike Testa of The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau.

George Muntean runs a soup restaurant on J Street near the Convention Center.  He normally closes on the weekend but will keep his doors open on Saturday.

“It’s going to be big.  I’m coming in tomorrow morning and will start making soup,” said Muntean.
It helps that a 1,000-person diabetes conference is also being held at the convention center.

Local costume shops are making out with last minute customers too.  Wizard World has booked Comic Com for the next three years to see if it will be profitable.  City officials will be watching closely too.  Opening day crowds were encouraging for city officials hoping for an extension of Wizard World’s commitment.
