SACRAMENTO COUNTY –
Three years ago, the home owner’s association board of Alicante Villas, a Sacramento condominium community, decided to switch to landscaping that requires less water.
The board hired GP Landscape to do the work. Now the project, nearing completion, is paying off during the drought. It includes a sprinkler system smart enough to sense the moisture in the soil, only watering when necessary.
“Turf-wise, I think it saves us about fifty-percent in our water,” said Ken Marshall, board president. “And with the plants, up to thirty percent.”
For the time being, the community is only watering once-per-week, abiding by county restrictions.
