Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies say a baby was hurt in a shooting Monday afternoon in a parking lot near Stockton Boulvard and Gerber Road.

The 11-month-old girl was hit in the face with shattered glass when a gunman opened fire on the car she was in. It all happened in the crowded parking lot of the Shop Smart at Stockton and Massie Circle in Sacramento County.

Paramedics checked the baby at the scene. She was not hospitalized for her injuries.

Police counted ten shell casing in all, with bullets riddling the car the baby girl was in, at least one other car parked nearby, and even blasting out a front window pane of the Shop Smart.

The victims reported to police that they did not know the suspects.

“There were no words exchanged as far as we know,” said Lt. Tim Cotter of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. “It began with a ‘hard look’ as far as we know.”

Ian McDonald contributed to this report.
