Shots rang out in the middle of a Rancho Cordova neighborhood Thursday afternoon in what is believe to be a dispute among neighbors according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.

The situation unfolded around 2:15 PM after reports of a man shooting an automatic gun on the 2400 block of Negrara Way.

Sergeant Jason Ramos said that man was shooting at a neighbor’s home across the street. When authorities arrived on scene they heard more gun shots and were given information on the shooter’s whereabouts.

“He came out threw an automatic weapon on the ground and surrendered to us,” said Ramos.

The man was hospitalized for a medical condition and taken into custody. Neighbor Maria Selgado said he has had issues with multiple residents, “Moved in a couple years ago since then it’s not been the most comfortable situation.”

After that arrest the situation still wasn’t deemed safe. Ramos said two officers then saw another man standing in his garage holding a gun. When they asked him to drop his weapon he refused leading authorities to open fire.

“They shot at him as he went back into the house,” said Ramos.

Neighbors identified him as Danny Sanchez. He was hit in the leg. He and his father eventually came out of the house where Danny was arrested and hospitalized. His dad was detained and questioned.

The only fatality reported was a dog. He was found dead suffering from a gunshot wound inside one of the homes involved.

Streets were blocked off for hours well into Thursday night as investigators took photos, gathered evidence and spoke to residents. Multiple area schools were placed on lock down and PG&E was in the area investigating a gas odor resulting from the incident.
