NORTH HIGHLANDS-

A man running from the CHP briefly barricaded himself inside a gas station convenience store Thursday night and helped himself to a couple of beers, Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies said.

According to investigators, the man wandered into a scene a Highway Patrol officer was investigating and began rummaging through the officer’s patrol car.

The man then reportedly ran into the Watt Avenue and Antelope Road Shell station and partially closed the security screen, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Bowman.

Deputies surrounded the store, unsure if the man was armed.

Meanwhile, store employees hid in the back room. Bowman told FOX40 that the man gave no indication that he even knew there were other people in the store with him.

During the ordeal, deputies say the man helped himself to two beers.

Deputies ultimately went inside and took the man into custody. Investigators say the man appeared to be under the influence.

The man was taken to a hospital to be checked out by a doctor before being booked into jail. He faces false imprisonment and resisting arrest charges.
