FOLSOM-
The country’s largest cycling event is making a stop in Folsom.
The time trial on May 12 will start on Sutter Street, heading toward Folsom Lake on Folsom-Auburn Boulevard. From there riders will get onto Folsom Lake Crossing to East Natoma Street and eventually Green Valley Road before turning around and heading back the way they came to the finish of the 12 and 1/2 mile sprint.
“It’s going to be great exposure for our city, so many people will see it on television and we are expecting about 20,000 to pour into our city for race day,” said Folsom City Council Member Jeff Starsky.
The route unveiling event Thursday morning also featured about 40 cyclists from Folsom taking the stage at the Folsom Amphitheater, riding the length of the course on their bikes in a show dubbed “Spin the Stage.”
The Amgen Tour of California will kick off Sunday May 11 in Sacramento.
