Explosion Rocks Rancho Cordova Apartment Complex

Metro Fire says a Wednesday evening explosion at a Rancho Cordova apartment complex sent two people to the hospital and displaced 146 residents.

The explosion was first reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the building along Mills Tower Drive, off Folsom Boulevard.

Investigators say the explosion came from a butane honey oil lab. Also known as hash oil, butane honey oil is a very potent form of cannabis.

Witnesses told FOX40 that they saw people on fire after hearing the explosion.

SMUD and PG&E and shut off service to the building as a result of the blast, Metro Fire said.

A firefighter was also said to have a minor injury but has since been released by a doctor.

The Red Cross is helping out those left without a place to stay.
