SACRAMENTO—
A fire broke out on the American River Sunday afternoon creating a large plume of smoke that can be seen throughout the city.
Traffic has been slowed down on nearby city streets and highway 160 due to the plume of smoke.
The fire is being handled by Sacramento City Fire Department, and many of the flames were just extinguished by a low-flying air tanker.
According to the Sacramento Fire Department’s Twitter account, crews are currently working on mopping up the fire and putting out hot spots.
Just before 4 p.m. firefighters completely extinguished the fire after it burned 36 acres.
