Harry Connick Jr.: Musician, Actor, American Idol Judge; Lopez Returns

The producers of American Idol said Tuesday that award-winning musician and actor Harry Connick Jr. will be joining the long-running series as a judge, and previous judge Jennifer Lopez will return.

Country star Keith Urban is also returning as a judge. Randy Jackson, the show’s last original judge that departed last season, will return as a mentor.

This upcoming season will be the series’ 13th. Lopez had been a judge for Idol’s 10th and 11th seasons.

“I have always been a huge fan of American Idol and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” Connick Jr. said in a statement. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season.”

Connick Jr. has made a name for himself as a songwriter, composer and actor, notably writing the score to “When Harry Met Sally.” He has several Grammys and Emmys under his belt.

Lopez, am actress and platinum-selling singer, was named by Forbes Magazine as 2012’s most powerful celebrity in the world.

Ryan Seacrest will return as host.
