Mayor Kevin Johnson isn’t about to declare his city’s bid to buy the Kings and build a new arena downtown a slam dunk just yet, but he did put his chances at about 90 percent on a national radio program this week.

Appearing the The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday, Mayor Johnson was asked to give a percentage for the likelihood the Kings would stay in Sacramento.

“I’m going to say… Steve Nash is on the free throw line,” Mayor Johnson said.  “A good 90 percent.”

The Mayor also didn’t miss a chance to build up his team of billionaires.

“We’re all over it here in Sacramento,” Johnson told Patrick. “We’ve got an ownership group that’s putting forward a counter offer that is competitive and very strong.  I think at the end of the day we’ll find a way to keep our team in Sacramento.”

The next test for the Mayor and his investor group will be April 3 in New York when both Sacramento and the Seattle group will present their respective cases to buy the team to the NBA Board of Governors.

Don't miss
