Yvette Gutierrez was at a Stockton gathering on East Sonora Street with her mother Juanita Maldonado, 35, when she saw three men walk toward the home and open fire.

“I see he had a gun and when I saw the gun I wanted to call my mom and tell her I see a guy with a gun,” Gutierrez said.

Five people were shot and one died instantly.

Maldonado laid on the ground begging her daughter to run to safety.

“She told me to go back to the car, but I did not want to leave her there. I know she was with her friends, but I wanted to be there with her,” said Gutierrez.

That was the last time Gutierrez saw her mother.

Now the 16-year-old and her two brothers, Rogelio, 16, and Gabriel, 12, are without their best friend.

Maldonado was described as a mother who would do anything for her children.

“I love her and I always will. She was the best mom ever. She did everything for us,” said Gutierrez

Police described the suspect as a light skinned Hispanic male in his early 20’s. He is average height and weight and has a thin mustache.

He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The family is asking anyone with information to come forward even if they remain anonymous.

“Help. We need it because they took our mom,” said Gutierrez.

The family has a home in French Camp they are hoping to save for the children’s sake.
