SACRAMENTO --

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies are investigating a double homicide that occurred on Saturday evening in the Arden Arcade area.

Resident Ruth Stephens remembered hearing several gunshots about 10 p.m.

"My dog heard a commotion and started barking. and I looked out the window," Stephens said.

Within minutes, Sacramento sheriffs deputies arrived on scene.
They found a handgun and a 43-year-old resident of the Arcade Apartments lying on the ground.

The man was given CPR but later died at the hospital.

Around the same time, a 30 year-old man with gunshot wounds checked himself into a different area hospital. That man also died of his injuries.

Investigators said the two victims are from the same incident, but do not know their relationship.

"We are trying to decipher what it all means ... whether they were shooting at each other or whether there was another subject there who is not deceased at this point in time, was also shooting," Sheriffs Spokesman Tony Turnbull said.

Witnesses said they saw three people fleeing the scene in a dark-colored car, going westbound on Edison toward Watt Avenue.

They said the people in hoodies left a trail of blood that led to their getaway car.

Stephens said she had never experienced an incident like this in the past.

"I was shocked myself," Stephens said. "I didn't know what to do. I could hardly get back to sleep after the police came."

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is urged to call the Sheriff's Non-Emergency number at (916) 874-5115.
