A standoff at a Modesto gas station between a reportedly “angry” man lasted for over four hours Sunday evening.

Modesto Police report that he walked into the Shell near Oakdale Avenue and Lancey Drive around 6 p.m. and started a fight.

The business was evacuated, with no hostages reported. However, the man has barricaded himself inside – reportedly breaking bottles.

Police noted he had no weapons. Negotiators tried to talk to the man, but he was uncooperative.

A SWAT team arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. By 10:45 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody. He has been transported to a local hospital and looks to have been under the influence of drugs, Modesto Police say.
