An Auburn man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to evade Placer County sheriff’s deputies Sunday night in Colfax, deputies said.

Donald Vanhardenberg , Jr., 30, allegedly refused to pull over on Tokayana Road when a deputy tried to pull him over for a vehicle code violation about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies said.

Authorities said Vanhardenberg was traveling at a high rate of speed for less than a mile before he drove off the road and into an open area.

The deputy used his spotlight and watched the suspect allegedly run from the car and up a hill into a home.

The deputy drove around to the front of the home and found Vanhardenberg hiding on the side of the hill, according to the sheriff’s office.

Vanhardenberg was booked into the Placer County Jail in Auburn on charges of evading, driving with a suspended license for DUI and possession of methamphetamine.

Vanhardenberg also had three warrants including one with a no-bail clause.
