A Lodi movie theater is responding to social media posts that claim bed bugs have resurfaced.
Bed bugs had plagued the theater in 2014. According to representatives with the Lodi Stadium 12 movie theater in downtown Lodi, they have not had a problem since.
The blood thirsty insects can cause welts and can be hard to get rid of. The pest used to be a major problem for the Lodi theater but not anymore. The Santa Rosa Entertainment Group, the company that manages the downtown Lodi theater, said they’ve been pest free for a year-and-a-half.
Back in August 2014, two teens claimed they were bitten by bed bugs after visiting the movie theater, but since that time, movie theater employees say they’ve had regular inspections.
Recently, social media posts claiming that bed bugs have resurfaced have plagued the theater. The company said the claims aren’t true.
Santa Rosa Entertainment Group said they've been proactive and cautious since bed bugs were found in 2014 and hired Clark Pest Control to take care of the issue.
“Been able to control these situations and control bed bugs and keep them out,” said Darren Van Steenkwyk, a tech director for Clark Pest Control.
Since then, Clark has performed monthly inspections, including one last week, and even used dogs to sniff and snuff out the problem.
“Canines can be very, very effective in certain situations. Canines are really good at detecting bed bugs in very low-level infestations,” Van Steenkwyk said.
While the thought of the insects coming back has scared off some moviegoers not all are easily moved.
“We have a lot of friends here, we’re sure that it’s clean and safe, and like I said, I come back here a lot so I have no worries about that,” moviegoer Cory Landis said.
The Santa Rosa Entertainment Group also said that as a precautionary measure, they check all their theaters for bed bugs -- even the ones without complaints.
