AUBURN — The body of a woman thought to be that of missing Sacramento woman Yin Wong has been found, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Searchers located the body of a woman in the American River Canyon near Auburn on Wednesday afternoon. It is suspected that it’s the body of Wong, but the identity has not yet been confirmed.

The identity and cause of death will be determined by autopsy. No foul play is suspected.

Crews had been looking for Wong since Sunday after her car was found near the rugged terrain along the American River Canyon ridge.

“She was a really awesome girl,” said Bruce Woodruff, a man who dated Wong. “Loving, caring.”

“She just loved life,” Woodruff added. “We were always going on trips.”

Woodruff said he doesn’t know what may have triggered her to drive to an unfamiliar area and walk into the American River Canyon.

“It was always positive,” Woodruff told FOX40 of his time with Wong. “There was never a sign of her having mental illness.”

“It’s just really really bizarre, her going out there because she doesn’t know anybody out there,” said Wong’s sister-in-law, Vanessa Zamora. “So I’m still trying to figure out why she went there, or if she was meeting somebody, because it just doesn’t sound like something she would do.”

Yin Wong, who also went by the name Michelle, leaves behind three children, ages 6, 7 and 9.

Family members were concerned that some of Wong’s Facebook posts recently signaled that she was feeling despondent. That’s not how they remember her.

“She was a very loving mom,” said Zamora. “She was a great sister-in-law. And she just always knew how to make people smile. And she was just a really fun person to be around.”
