ELK GROVE –

A burning couch causes a mobile home to go up in flames.

Fire crews arrived at the Westerner Mobile Home Park along West Stockton Boulevard Friday afternoon to find the home on fire.

Officials say a couch on the porch somehow caught fire, and then quickly spread to the home.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames before they spread to other units.

“There’s always a potential due to the close proximity of the homes, and there’s also a slight wind that was pushing the fire towards another mobile home that was next to it,” Battalion Chief Kevin McLean of the Consumnes Fire Department said.

The occupants of the home, a couple and their baby, managed to get out safely. However, crews are still searching for the couple’s pets, a dog and a cat.

The cause of the initial fire is still under investigation.
