Two people suffered burn injuries after a car lost control, crashed into a home and caught fire in South Sacramento.

California Highway Patrol officer Dowty told FOX40 News that a speeding driver on Elk Grove Florin Road lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a home at 8901 Bridalsmith Drive.

Dowty said two people in the car suffered minor burn injuries, and he believes a third person walked away from the crash.

A witness told FOX40 that one person in the car suffered burns to his arm and another person suffered burns to his leg. She said the driver and passenger believed the third person was trapped in the burning vehicle, but they eventually found that third person on Elk Grove Florin Road.

Fire traveled from the car and burned the living room and roof of the home it crashed into on Bridalsmith Drive. The car cut down several trees, a stop sign, and a 5 foot brick wall before it flipped into the home.

Luckily, the renters who live there were out at dinner when the crash occurred. They said they found out about the crash only after their friend drove by their house and called to make sure they were okay.

"So we paid for our check and left the restaurant immediately," said Joe Lim.

Lim and his girlfriend were most worried about their two dogs that were home at the time of the crash.

"This house can be replaced. This is mostly an inconvenience. We were scared our dogs would be hurt, or that they'd run out the house and get hit by a car," said Lim.

Lim said firefighters rescued the dogs from the burning home.

Police are investigating the scene to determine what caused the driver to lose control and crash into the home.
