The streets of Old Sacramento were packed on New Year's Eve. Tens of thousands said goodbye to 2015 under the glow of fireworks.

Two fireworks shows, a limbo contests and even a surprise New Year's proposal were just some of the exciting things at the 16th annual Sky Spectacular in Old Sac.

Twenty-five thousand to 50,000 people were expected at the event Thursday. With the crowds comes extra precautions.  The Sacramento Police Department was out in full force with pod camera trailers and heavier law enforcement presence to keep families safe.

Sidney Scheideman with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau said, "We work closely with the Sacramento Police Department and they've come up with a plan we feel comfortable with."

The focus of the first part of this year's event was families. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. activities for kids ranged from a 3-D game theater to a DJ, but it was also a good time for adults.

"Its our first time out here it's pretty neat. I recommend it for sure," said visitor Andrew Nelson.

Old Sac visitors were expected to ring in 2016 with a second fireworks show.
