MODESTO -- The winds blow, the skies darken and the trickling of rain makes streets and corners swell with water, creating puddles and potential problems in Modesto.

"We’ve been pretty busy this year. We’ve got quite a bit of rain already,” said Robert Englent, Collections Systems manager with the city of Modesto.

On Thursday, at least one city crew was out on Goldenrod Drive cleaning clogged drains that could have resulted in a big watery mess.

Englent says one of the reasons why the drains get clogged is because of debris like piles of leaves.

FOX40’s Chief Meterologist Kristina Werner says Modesto avoided the worst of the storm during the day.

The city says they’re prepared for the weather to change.

"We’re hoping it’s not going to be too bad tonight, but we will have crews out working through the night,” Englent tells us.

City officials say if your neighborhood begins to flood you can them a call at (209) 577-6200.
