UPDATE: An official with Colfax High School spoke with FOX40 on Wednesday to clarify some statements made by students. The official confirmed that while the student charged did make threats to himself and other students, he says there was no hit list found in this case and no members of any sports teams were targeted. The spokesman added that the bullet casing found on campus was determined to be unrelated to this case.

COLFAX — Just a few weeks into the school year and a Colfax High School sophomore is behind bars instead of in class.

The principal sent an automated message to parents explaining that a 15-year-old was arrested on a felony charge for attempted criminal threats.

“Very terrible, it’s just terrible,” said a student who asked to remain anonymous.

At least three students told FOX40 they heard the student who was arrested had a hit list.

“A kid found a bullet in one of the locker rooms, and they identified the person who had a gun had a hit-man list and was planning to shoot football players and some of his friends,” the student said.

The Placer Union High School District says last week a student expressed concerns to administrators and Placer County Sheriff’s detectives began working with them to investigate.

When they found reason for concern, investigators took action.

“I think they responded quickly. Whatever it was that cropped up was quickly dealt with,” said Katrina Thompson, the mother of a Colfax High School student.

Some parents are relieved knowing there’s no longer a threat at school, and a student has been punished.

“If he was doing something that’s threatening in that manner, then he should be in juvenile hall or maybe a psych ward, I don’t know,” said Colfax resident Christina Steele.

The student remains in juvenile hall in Auburn, facing felony charges.

An identity is not being released.
