EL DORADO COUNTY — A fire has been spreading south of Shingle Springs, according to Cal Fire.
Around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, the French Fire off of French Creek and Bonnetti roads had reached 20 acres. An hour later it had spread to 100 acres.
The fire, now 136 acres, was burning quickly through a cattle ranch and planes were dropping water and retardant on the flames.
The thick growth in the area, combined with strong wind gusts from Sunday afternoon, fed the flames and Woodland crews worked hard to get a handle on them before they could burn more densely populated neighborhoods.
No homes are currently threatened and no homes have been evacuated.
As of Tuesday at 8 a.m., Cal Fire reports the French Fire has been 95 percent contained.
There are 350 firefighters on the fire. The job for many of those working overnight will be to hand cut broad strips of forest to block the fire’s path. Come sun up, they will be able to bring the air supply back in.
Officials have not reported the cause of the fire.
