NORTH SACRAMENTO — Sacramento Fire crews battled a fire at an abandoned hospital building in North Sacramento on Sunday afternoon.

The fire started in an old hospital facility on Arcade and Del Paso boulevards.
Heavy black smoke could be seen pouring out of the building.

Unsafe conditions forced crews to withdraw from the fire and into defensive mode. That means firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby home and buildings, but they didn’t try to put it out from the inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
