FRENCH CAMP — A fire that started at French Camp Grain Elevators has been contained by crews.

Calls regarding the blaze on Harlan Road near Interstate 5 came in around 10:30 a.m., according to the Valley Regional Emergency Communication Center.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reports oil drenched the structure after three containers split open. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen as far as Lodi, according to one witness.

No injuries have been reported.

The public is being asked by the sheriff’s office to avoid Harlan Road, which has been blocked off from East Lynn Avenue to East Transportation Court, as well as South McKinley Avenue from East Wyman Road to around 100 yards north of the roadway.

Officials could not confirm how much of the facility was damaged.
