DAVIS, Calif. (KTXL) — Bystanders rescued a driver from his vehicle as it caught fire early Monday morning following a crash in Davis.
Davis Police Lt. Mike Munoz said just after 1 a.m., a driver was headed south on Mace Boulevard when he hit a section of raised concrete at the Interstate 80 onramp.
His vehicle careened across all six lanes of Mace Boulevard before slamming into a concrete wall and a fence, Lt. Munoz explained.
Several bystanders rushed to pull the driver to safety just as flames started coming from the heavily damaged vehicle.
Munoz said the unidentified driver was taken to UC Davis Medical Center and at last report, was in critical condition.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Munoz said.
Later in the morning, Mace Boulevard was still closed in both directions. The Mace Boulevard I-80 on- and off-ramps were also shut down.
