RIO LINDA -- A 70-year-old man is dead and another man, who is believed to be the victim's son, was in custody Tuesday after a shooting in Rio Linda.

A residential street was filled with homicide detectives and heartbroken family members after a deadly shooting around 10 a.m. on Quadra Avenue.

Investigators say a neighbor called 911 and when detectives arrived on scene it did not take long for them to detain a possible suspect.

"The person that walked out of the home did have a firearm in his possession and at this point we believe the victim and the suspect are related," said Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Shaun Hampton.

Hampton says a 70-year-old man was found dead inside. Investigators believe the man's son, who is in his 40s, is the one who pulled the trigger.

"I heard some yelling," said neighbor Bernice Foster.

Foster told FOX40 she heard a commotion Tuesday morning then she saw crime scene tape outside her front yard.

"I'm actually really surprised. This neighborhood is a pretty quiet, working-class neighborhood," Foster said. "We don't really have a lot of problems. I believe that in that house it seemed like there was someone living there who might have been special needs."

About a dozen family members showed up to the scene but they did not want to speak on camera.

The identities of the victim and the man who was detained have not been released and the investigation is ongoing.
