NORTH HIGHLANDS — Two people died Thursday after they were shot at a North Highlands business.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened on Auburn Boulevard near Hemlock Street just after 4 p.m. Deputies were seen at Foothill Plaza, a small shopping center in the area.

A man was killed at the scene. A woman was hospitalized with life-threatening gunshot wounds and later died.

There are no outstanding suspects, the sheriff’s office says, but a weapon was found at the scene.

Homicide detectives are still trying to determine if there was a relationship between the two victims.

This is a developing story.
