FORESTHILL — A day after a hiker went missing near Robinson Flat in Foresthill a helicopter spotted him on a steep cliff.

The hiker, identified as 25-year-old Andrew Shanahan, is the nephew of FOX40’s Dennis Shanahan.

Monday, Placer County sheriff’s deputies along with search and rescue workers were looking for Andrew Shanahan, who is described as an avid outdoorsman. He and a friend were camping in the area when they decided to go on a hike. Andrew decided to go back to camp while his friend continued exploring, which is when Andrew lost his way Sunday afternoon.

The helicopter found him Monday afternoon and he was flown to base camp on Robinson Flat Road, where his family was waiting. His family says he just had a few scrapes but was doing well.

Overnight, Andrew Shanahan covered himself with pine branches as he slept. He used a water filter and stayed hydrated with water from a stream.
