The Hughson School District released a new statement denying any allegations of sexual assault in a recent hazing scandal at Hughson High School.
Sources told FOX40 that on Oct. 29, one Hughson High School football player was allegedly hazed by at least two of his teammates after pulling a prank in the boys locker room.
Early talks among students and parents suggested the victim may have been sexually assaulted. However, in a new statement released Friday, the school district denied those allegations.
Hughson School District statement:
“The District has worked very closely with the Stanislaus County Sherriff’s Department in the investigation of an incident occurring in the Hughson High School football team locker room on October 29, 2014. The District has determined, based upon the investigation, that no sexual assault occurred. Nonetheless, the District is addressing the matter internally with respect to any misconduct. We must respect the privacy of our students in this regard and cannot comment any further. However, the District wants to ensure parents, students, and the community that we take student safety issues very seriously.”
The district would not comment on the punishment, if any, for the alleged perpetrators. However, they did confirm that head coach George Harp will not be at Friday night’s rival game against Ripon High school.
The Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department was unavailable for comment.
