After video of a pug being abused in Fairfield went viral, police have finally located the dog.

Benny the pug was checked out by a veterinarian and has been deemed OK. He has been released back to his owners, including Brandi Chin, the woman seen throwing the dog in the video.

Chin told FOX40 she feels terrible about what happened, and that her actions were in the heat of the moment. But she wants people to understand she does not abuse her dog.

Chin allowed FOX40 to see Benny playing in her boyfriend’s front yard, to show people he’s healthy, and happy. But she admits that her horrible action caught in the video gave people reason to be concerned.

Chin was not comfortable talking on camera because ever since the video was made public, she told FOX40 she’d been receiving death threats. But her boyfriend, who did not give his name, assures everyone Benny is being properly cared for.

“We took him down to the clinic down there in Cordilla, and he did a full check-up on the dog, the doctor did, and everything. He’s OK — X-ray, blood work, the whole nine yards,” Chin’s boyfriend told FOX40.

Chin told FOX40 off camera the video captured her in the middle of a fight with a friend and while she simply meant to release Benny, in her anger and the chaos of the argument, she said she released him harder to the ground than she had intended.

Chin said the video was made public by the very friends she was in a fight with that day. She believes they released the video in order to hurt her.

However, the Fairfield Police Department said it has handed the case over to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, and that agency could still charge Chin with animal abuse.
