Bicyclist Struck, Killed by Freight Train Along Bond Road in Elk Grove

ELK GROVE — Elk Grove police say a man was killed Monday when he was struck by a train while on his bicycle.

Around 5:15 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department reports a bicyclist was heading east on Bond Road while a northbound freight train came through the area near Elk Grove Florin Road.

Witnesses told police the crossing arms went down and the lights were activated at the railroad crossing as the train approached. Stopped drivers joined the train’s operator in sounding their horns, but the man was still hit by the oncoming freight train.

He died from his injuries.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify the man.

The Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau will be leading investigation into the deadly crash.

Southbound traffic was diverted away from Elk Grove Florin Road just north of West Camden Drive.
