ELK GROVE--

The Elk Grove Police Department continues its investigation into a possible shooting incident that resulted in a car crash at a local restaurant.

Shattered glass, mangled metal and a building destroyed -- the chaotic aftermath of a high speed collision can be clearly seen at the Wrap N’ Roll sushi restaurant in Elk Grove.

Rashminder Tagger lives down the street from the restaurant. She watched the event unfold right before her eyes.

“I was turning left and then this car was coming from the opposite side, and they just accelerated and accelerated over the curb and straight into the restaurant,” Tagger said.

Tagger immediately sprung into action looking to help anyone injured.

“I quickly parked, and I got out to see if everybody was OK and there were two African-American young men,” said Tagger.  “They jumped out of the car right away and the air bags were out. It didn't look like anyone got run over.”

At 2:49 p.m. the Elk Grove Police Department received a string of phone calls. They were given reports of shots fired, accounts of a vehicle colliding into a building and a possible shooting victim.

Spokesman for the Elk Grove Police Department Chris said they were trying to understand what was taking place.

“There was another call on the 10000 block of Tittle Way regarding an individual who stated he had been shot at and the vehicle had fled the scene,” Trim said.

Just down the street, Aimal Jahani was jolted from a nap after the sound of gunfire startled him.

“I heard like three gunshots, and then I heard a car taking off afterwards, and when I heard that, me and my mom started to go outside,” said Jahami. “All you hear was cop car, after cop car, after cop car.”

As police pieced together the calls, schools were placed on lock down. Franklin High School students Joshua Thompson and Tyrique Pearson recall the chaos.

“We saw a helicopter flying overhead, and they were like everyone go inside the nearest building,” said Pearson.

Four area schools locked their doors to keep students safe.

“The fact that we possibly had some armed individuals fleeing in the directions of the schools as a safety precaution to make sure the children were safe the schools were placed on lock down,” said Trim.

Half a mile from the restaurant crash site, police detained two male suspects. However, police say an investigation is active and ongoing.

“At this point we are still trying to piece this puzzle together,” said Trim.

Trim confirms that multiple suspects were taken into custody approximately half a mile from the restaurant crash site.

There are no known injuries at this time.
